The RatokŪtherapy (microphotoirradiation)

The RatokŪtherapy of vitiligo is a revolutionary method, not so much for the use of UVB rays - although at high rates and microdosed - as for its purpose to achieve three main objectives: thoroughly give up the use of drugs, and particulary of systemic or local photosensitizing agents; focus rays on vitiligo patches, point by point, without involving the normally pigmented surrounding skin; significantly reduce the high UV ray quantities usually employed in the treatment of vitiligo through identification of the correct frequency and of the specific UVB rate required to restore melanin production in affected melanocytes. In persuit of such objectives, the company Biophoenix S.r.l. of Milan, a manufacturer of advanced-technology medical devices, has created the RatokŪderm equipment (Fig. 1), by which over 2,000 vitiligo patients were treated with the RatokŪtherapy, from 1984 to the first half of 1998, with good to excellent results in 70% of those who completed treatment.
The RatokŪtherapy is performed and monitored at the RatokŪderm Medical Dermatological Centre by the same physicians, researchers, and technicians who have conceived the RatokŪderm equipment and studied its specifics use for the treatment of vitiligo.
